Sophomore Londyn Fields is currently listening to “Last Lap” by Rod Wave.
“I like the song, because it’s meaningful,” Fields said.
“Last Lap” is a mid-tempo beat song conveying the artist’s emotions on how desperately he wants to give up, but has to keep going. Wave talks about the pressure and burden he feels his family put on him.
He reflects on his personal journey, his setbacks and challenges on his rise to success in the music industry.
Many of his listeners feel the chorus really emphasizes just how real his situation is to him. He sings, “And this is my last time, I can’t take it no more I’m movin’ on, I’m finally free.” It resembles his breaking point but also feeling liberated as he moves forward.
Rod Wave’s “Last Lap” is from his album “Beautiful Mind.” Born on August 27, 1998, Rod Wave has received numerous awards such as BET Hip-Hop Awards, Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, and iHeartRadio Music Awards.
His album “SoulFly” was nominated for Favorite Hip-Hop Album at the American Music Awards, and he was nominated as Best New Hip-Hop Artist at both the iHeartRadio and BET Hip-Hop Awards in previous years.
“He put lots of effort, emotions, and pain in his song,” Fields said.
“Last Lap” is available on all major streaming platforms.
