Economics teacher Walt Ellison is listening to “The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis & The News.
“I was raised in the ‘80s, and it has a real ‘80s sound,” Ellison said.
This song focuses on how important love is to life, and demonstrates it really well with its high tempo and use of an electrifying guitar track, along with the singer’s stark voice. The song demonstrates its theme with many different reasons to love.
The lyrics share how love makes people feel many different emotions. They say, “Make a one man weep, make another man sing/change a hawk to a little white dove/more than a feeling, that’s the power of love.” The lyrics truly make love feel like a force that is full of strength and a part of life that fuels people in different ways.
“The power of love can make one man sing, and another man weep,” Ellison quoted. “You’re gonna be glad when you find it, because the power of love is what makes the world go around.”
Huey Lewis & The News formed in 1979 and have had their latest release in 2020. Their first two albums were well received by audiences, but they were really pushed into the mainstream with the release of the album “Sports” in 1983. A big push that this album received was the music videos shown on MTV which brought in many more listeners and viewers.
Along with being MTV legends they also got on the big screen with “The Power of Love” when it was featured on “Back to the Future” in 1985.
“[Huey Lewis & The News] are my favorite artists of all time,” Ellison said.
