Senior Carlee Campbell is currently listening to “Mamaw’s House” by Thomas Rhett and Morgan Wallen.
“I just really relate to [‘Mamaw’s House’] because both of my grandparents lived within five minutes from me and I spent almost every weekend at their houses throughout my childhood,” Campbell said.
“Mamaw’s House” was co-written by Morgan Wallen and Thomas Rhett and released as a single in 2023.
The history behind the making of this song is very special to Rhett and Wallen. For a while, they had the idea of writing a song together, but their work was not coming together for them until one evening when Wallen’s Mamaw called him during their Zoom call prompting the idea of writing “Mamaw’s House.”
The song opens up with a recording of Wallen talking to his Mamaw on the phone during his Zoom call. The song continues with a description of their Mamaw’s houses and the precious memories they made there.
“Mamaw’s House” illustrates the connections that many people feel to their grandparents’ homes, and the deep love and affection grandchildren have with their grandparents.
Rhett and Wallen also explain through their lyrics that going to their Mamaw’s house was a way for them to find comfort and peace in their busy worlds. In the song they sing, “Yeah maybe this crazy world would straighten up and slow on down, if every town had a Mamaw’s house.”
Since its release in 2023, “Mamaw’s House” has become a favorite of many country music fans. In March of 2024, it was awarded number one song on the Billboard Country Airplay.
“I mainly listen to [Mamaw’s House] in my car or when I am thinking of my grandma,” Campbell said.”
“Mamaw’s House” is available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube.
