Senior Annelise Brown is currently listening to “Soft Like a Flower” by Cherry Glazerr.
“I feel like it’s about having really, really deep emotions [and] not really always knowing how to deal with them, especially in a relationship,” Brown said. “I just really like her lyrics and the instrumentals.”
“Soft Like A Flower” encompasses a wide range of audio stimuli, from quiet and mellow to loud and passionate. The low pitch of bass and steady rhythm of drums accompany the singer’s voice, ceasing during each transition from verse to chorus to let the guitar solo shine. The lyrics are abstract and angsty, exploring the vulnerability and destructiveness of love that comes with submission.
Cherry Glazerr is a grunge rock band that found its roots from the 2012 SoundCloud account of the then-15-year-old Clementine Creevy from Los Angeles, California. Its members consist of lead vocalist and guitarist Clementine Creevy, drummer Tabor Allen, and bassist Sami Perez. Formed in 2013 and with multiple changes of members since, the most recent albums by the band include “I Don’t Want You Anymore” (2023), “Stuffed & Ready” (2019), and “Apocalipstick” (2017).
“I really like Cherry Glazerr’s work,” Brown said. “I just really like her lyricism and style. It’s unique in a way, and it really resonates.”
