Junior Riley Gibbas is currently listening to “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” by Jeff Buckley.
“I like his vocal range and the emotion Buckley sings with,” Gibbas said. “[It’s] a little desperate.”
Buckley sings a strong, emotional tune to demonstrate the desperation of a young man in love. The song embodies a woeful mood, depicting feelings of longing and yearning for someone who has lost their love due to their own mistakes.
Passion and regret are ingrained within the lyrics, “Too deaf, dumb and blind to see the damage I’ve done.”
Released in 1994, “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” is the most popular song on Buckley’s album, “Grace.” The artist gained a large following in the ‘90s because of this debut album. Shortly after his debut, however, Buckley suffered a fatal event in the Mississippi River after being carried underwater by a passing boat.
Buckley’s legacy lives on and his songs have continued to influence alternative rock music after his passing in 1997.
“This song is a little louder and has more emotion than the others on the album,” Gibbas said.
You can listen to “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming platforms.
