“Crazy Maze” by The House Jacks
May 3, 2023
Math teacher Dr. Scott Bailey is currently listening to “Crazy Maze” by acapella group The House Jacks.
“When I was an undergraduate at Cornell they were really big in acapella,” Bailey said. “I was friends with one of the people in an acapella group and he lent me a CD, and [The House Jacks] was on there.”
The House Jacks is a professional acapella group that formed in San Francisco. Deke Sharon formed the band in 1991, and it consists of five male vocal members. Though more voices have joined, the original are Mark Joseph, John Pointer, Nick Girard, Austin Willacy, and Gregory Fletcher.
Bailey does not necessarily listen to the lyrics in a song, but instead listens more to the beat because he has a vast background in music and band.
“Whenever you have a song like that it makes me feel better,” Bailey said. “Listening to the harmonies and the rhythm, it’s a really good song for that.”
This song was first released in 1994 and contains themes of reality and life. The song explains that money does not make you, but only shields you from the world for a moment. The song also talks about how we are all living in a maze, and we are trying everyday to figure out a way out of it through learning more about ourselves.
You can listen to “Crazy Maze” by The House Jacks on all streaming devices including Spotify and Apple Music.
