With his debut album now released, Zach Hood’s musical talent has been further revealed through an album which does not fall short of relating to his audience.
In his 2024 debut album, Hood combines relatable lyrics about pulling through struggle with a smooth voice to create powerful melodies, touching the hearts of his audience.
“Weatherman” is a powerful song with metaphorical lyrics comparing tension in a relationship to a coming storm. While Hood’s vocals pull the song together and the instrumentals create a proper chorus, the depth of the song comes from the lyrics.
Hood sings, “The trees are barely moving/And the birds are hardly singing/The leaves have left the branches/Now I know you’re really leaving.”
Many music artists fail at creating relatable lyrics that are still gravitating, but Zach Hood ties all of the best parts of music together.
Hood’s song “how to change a tire” explores his struggles growing up without a father.
Hood sings about how he has overcome his father’s absence, choosing to rise above and be a better person to those around him, but he also talks about how he still struggles with his father not being there. In his chorus, he illustrates being stranded on the side of the road, not knowing how to change a tire due to his father never teaching him.
Further, in his song “30,” Hood portrays going through a crisis, wondering if he will make it to age thirty.
With many members of his audience being young like him, it is possible they have gone through a hard time or period of depression. It is difficult at times while young to imagine being a responsible adult, and Hood illustrates his tough introduction into adulthood.
While his new album is beautiful and lyrical and is an accurate representation of everything Hood has worked towards in the past five years, the most powerful part of it is his ability to take his real feelings and write lyrics which are genuine and therapeutic for him.
Artists who are able to take real-life events, genuine problems and broadcast them to the world in a vulnerable and authentic way to touch the hearts of others are the ones who deserve all the credit.
Being originally from Daphne, Alabama, Zach Hood first started his career by posting covers on Tiktok and YouTube in 2019. His first original song was released in 2021 called “Flashbacks,” which spoke on his experience of his parent’s divorce. The song has now gained over 50 million streams on Spotify.
Zach Hood’s new album is through and through him, whether it be his upbringing or his love life, but he takes what he feels and turns it into songs which are so effortlessly related to who his audience is. He talks about going through a crisis and feeling lost and climbing up from everything he has faced, still young and growing.
“Whispering Pines” is an authentic album which relates to each and every one of Hood’s listeners, allowing them to feel motivated and heard, and know that they can make it out of whatever they are going through.
“Whispering Pines” can be found on all streaming platforms.
