On October 24, Alex O’Connor, artistically known as Rex Orange County, played his concert at the Cobb Energy Center for Performing Arts. This was the second night in Atlanta on his “Finally” Tour.
In his previous tours to Atlanta, he has performed in larger venues like when he came in 2022 for the “Who Cares?” tour when he performed in Cadence Bank Amphitheater at Chastain Park. As an audience member who has been to both, the smaller venue allowed the audience to truly listen to the songs and take them in rather than focusing on the performance.
The songs in his latest album, “Alexander Technique”, are songs that have received a lot of criticism. In comparison to his other albums, his newer songs are a lot more personal and less mainstream pop. Performing these songs in a smaller venue helps the audience have that more personal connection to the songs.
A smaller venue allowed for more fan engagement that included him walking up and down the aisles of seats while singing “Therapy” and hugging the fans. Something else that was unique about this show is that he did not have an opener and the show only lasted around 90 minutes.
The set list started off with songs from his new album like “Alexander” and “2008.” Toward the middle of the performance he went back and played popular songs off of his old albums like “4 Seasons” and “Always”.
He also played “Know Love,” a song from his first album, “Bcos u will never be free.” Aside from Instagram Live, Rex had never played it in front of an audience.
“Alexander Technique” as well as the rest of O’Connor’s albums are available to stream on all streaming platforms.
