Losing someone is a fear that many people have, including Benson Boone. However, it is a part of life that helps us grow as an individual.
We all go through a period of darkness in order for us to be able to see the light. Boone speaks up about his journey of losing someone and the fears he has carried with him to love someone again through his song “Beautiful Things.”
Benson Boone was first recognized for his music on TikTok in 2021. He auditioned for “American Idol” but later withdrew. However, he continued to gain popularity on TikTok and currently has 4.2 million followers. Benson used his platform to tease his new song throughout December of 2023 and it gained around 130 million views.
This new single, “Beautiful Things,” was finally released on January 19, 2024, and jumped to No. 2 on the iTunes all genre chart and iTunes pop chart. “Beautiful Things” quickly reached success with almost 10 million streams on Spotify. The pop song recognizes the themes of appreciation that come with the struggles of loss and love.
In the lyrics, “I’ve got peace and I’ve got love/ But I’m up at night thinkin’ I just might lose it all.” Boone’s fear of loss is bringing him a sense of doubt that the good will last long. All the beautiful things God sends our way are able to disappear within a blink of an eye, so do not take them for granted. You have to work hard to deserve what you are given.
There would be no way to appreciate the good if that is all there was in life. In order to know and be grateful for the good, you have to know what the bad is like.
Boone sings, “I hold you every night/ And that’s a feeling I wanna get used to/ But there’s no man as terrified as the man who stands to lose you.” He is happier than he has been in years and is so grateful for what he has. Yet, he must remind himself that all of it can go away at any time.
We have no control over the future and it is a scary thought. Knowing that the person who is your everything one day can be gone the next is terrifying. So, thank God for the time you have with that person. Give all that you have to that person because that time is yours now. The future is not ours to see, God oversees it. Things happen for a reason, so if it is supposed to happen it will.
