Senior Rihana Harris-Otero recently watched “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
“Avatar and the Last Airbender” follows the journey of a young boy named Aang who has been prophesied to unite a divided nation by confronting and subduing the main oppressors, the Fire Nation. He works alongside his friends to learn how to wield each of the four elements: air, water, earth, and fire. Only when his powers have been fully realized can he face the Fire Nation and restore peace to the world.
This television series was produced by the Nickelodeon Animation studio starting in 2005. Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko directed this show. These men also directed “The Legend of Korra,” a spin-off of the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series.
What did you enjoy about this film/series?
“I really enjoyed the dialogue between the characters,” Harris-Otero said. “It felt very natural and it was easy to connect with all of them.”
What motivated you to watch this film/series?
“My friend ridiculed me for not watching it, and since it is such a pivotal series in our society, I chose to watch it,” Harris-Otero said. “I am so glad I did.”
What was the most memorable part of this film/series?
“When they were in the canyon and these monsters were coming towards them, Aang and his friends were being all cool and fighting them off,” Harris-Otero said.
How is this film/series different from others that you have watched?
“It sticks with me and that’s unusual because most of the things that I’ve seen I’ve had to stop halfway through cause I didn’t like it,” Harris-Otero said.
What other films similar to this one would you recommend?
“I would say ‘Treasure Planet’ because the art is just really pretty,” Harris-Otero said. “The protagonists are easy to understand and easy to relate to.”
