Junior Blerta Basha recently watched “Arcane.”
The story revolves around the conflict between a utopian city and an extension of which goes against its image, following two sisters separated by the sides they support. This animation series is adapted from the video game “League of Legends,” yet the combination of 2D and 3D animation along with its emotion-arousing plot appeal to both those who are familiar with the game and those who are not.
This series is voiced by Hailey Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and more. It is directed by Pascal Charrue and Arnaud Delord.
What did you enjoy about this film/series?
“I enjoyed the storytelling and the animation,” Basha said. “It’s absolutely beautiful.”
What motivated you to watch this film/series?
“I’ve had a few months before I watched it. People were asking me about it, and I was just like, ‘Oh, I’m not gonna watch it, like ew, why would I watch that?’,” Basha said. “But then I saw on my YouTube Shorts… character designs of the characters and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that looks so cool.’ And when I started watching it, I got hooked on it.”
What was the most memorable part of the film/series?
“Oh, my gosh. This is a spoiler, but at the end, one of the main characters kills their father, and she goes into a psychotic rage and kills the council, which is the people who rule over the city,” Basha said. “The plot is so thick. It’s so much [that] it’s hard to explain just a memorable moment. It’s the most important, because it’s the ending, and it leaves you on a cliffhanger.”
How is this film series different from others that you have watched?
“I think this was the first time I’ve ever watched [something that is] not [a] live-action type show,” Basha said. “I think ‘Arcane,’ even though it’s not like an anime or anything close to it, it [has] got me into other shows that are kind of close to that.”
What other films are similar to this one would you recommend?
“This is on my list but I want to watch ‘Cyberpunk’,” Basha said. “I think the animation is similar to it and maybe the plot. It just seems like it correlates to ‘Arcane’.”
A second season is announced to be released in November 2024. “Arcane” can be streamed on Netflix.
