Assistant Principal Andrea Freeman’s favorite film is “The Goonies.”
“The Goonies” follows the story of a group of adventurous kids who challenge a big-time property developing company that threatens their home. The children discover a pirate map that leads them on a search for treasure.
“The Goonies,” starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, and Anne Ramsey, was directed by Richard Donner. Donner has directed many other successful films from the early Hollywood period, and co-produced “The Goonies” as well.
What did you enjoy about this film/series?
“It has everything,” Freeman said. “It has social commentary, it has adventure, it has references to history, all of that.”
What motivated you to watch this film/series?
“I was a kid when it came out, so we watched everything that came out and it had kids in it,” Freeman said. “I watch it all the time. It’s like my comfort movie.”
What was the most memorable part of this film/series?
“[The saying] ‘Hey you guys,’ and the Chunk shuffle when he does the little dance and shows his belly,” Freeman said. “That’s my favorite part.”
How is this film/series different from others that you have watched?
“It still makes you feel that sense of adventure,” Freeman said. “Even though I’ve watched it multiple times and it came out 30 years ago, it still makes you get involved in the sense of adventure and hope for the best outcome for the main characters.”
What other films similar to this one would you recommend?
“‘The Sandlot, ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’’ and the original ‘Adventures in Babysitting’,” said Freeman.
