Junior Ella Long has recently watched “The Little Mermaid: Live action.”
“The Little Mermaid” (2023) follows the age-old tale of Ariel the Mermaid, with a modern, live action twist. Ariel’s life in and out of the water is explored as she overcomes challenges with her father and her love interest, Prince Eric.
Some stars featured in this movie include the new and rising Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King as well as the well-known Melissa McCarthy and Daveed Diggs. This film was directed by Rob Marshall, known for directing “Into the Woods,” “Chicago,” and “Mary Poppins returns.”
What did you enjoy about this film/series?
“I like the live action way better than the cartoon version,” Ella Long said. “I liked that they developed the story more and they connected everything better. Afterwards I went through and paid attention to all the little things they did in the movie. This made me feel more knowledgeable about the story overall.”
What motivated you to watch this film/series?
“In the spring we did a rendition of ‘The Little Mermaid’ for our ballet performance,” Ella Long said. “The whole school of dance went to see it, which was really fun.”
What was the most memorable part of this film/series?
“The most memorable part of the movie is Prince Eric’s song ‘Wild Uncharted Waters’ because he doesn’t have a song in the original version,” Long said. “That was definitely the most standout.”
How is this film/series different from others that you have watched?
“Something that really set it apart was the scenery, it’s really pretty. They put it together so well, and so I thought that was really cool. It wasn’t CGI either,” Long said. “It was filmed at a real location in Europe.”
What other films similar to this one would you recommend?
“If I had to recommend another movie similar to this I think I would recommend the original Cartoon ‘Little Mermaid.’ The new live action one is better but the original is a close second. ‘The Little Mermaid’ (2023) is better than all the other Disney live actions,” Long said. “None of the other ones live up to this movie.”
“The Little Mermaid” (2023) is available on many streaming services including Disney+, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV.
