Junior Julianna Biel is currently reading “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen.
“The movie motivated me to read the book,” junior Julianna Biel said. “It’s one of my favorite movies, so I wanted to see how the movie was adapted from the book.”
The classic romantic novel follows the stories of Elizabeth Bennet, an intelligent young woman, and Fitzwillam Darcy, an arrogant landowner. Their early animosity toward each other, driven by prejudice and pride, slowly shifts into love as they come to understand each other’s nature. The book explores ideas of social class, marriage, reputation, and character development during the 19th century.
“[I like] in the book you can see what she’s thinking about his actions,” Biel said. “It also gives you insight on his thoughts, which is something the movie lacks.”
English novelist and early feminist Jane Austen is most known for her novels “Pride and Prejudice” and “Emma.” Although Austen was never publicly recognized as an author during the 18th century, her works still remain prominent to this day.
“I would definitely recommend this book,” junior Julianna Biel said. “It’s a classic, and a really good and sweet romance novel.”
