English teacher Whitney Shoemaker recently read “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” written by Jenny Han.
“I just thought it was a cute, easy story, and I liked the characters,” Shoemaker said. “It’s a young adult book, so I can talk to my students about it.”
The book follows Lara Jean, a junior in high school, who used to write love letters to all of her crushes to help get over them with no intent of sending them. However, all of the letters somehow get sent out into the mail, and one of the boys who gets one is her sister’s ex-boyfriend Josh. To make sure she does not betray her sister, she begins a fake relationship with the postal boy Peter. Eventually she begins to have feelings for Peter and ensues a love triangle between the three of them.
Jenny Han is an American author who has mainly written young adult romance books throughout her career. She has had many popular series including “The Summer I Turned Pretty” trilogy. She has also been a screenwriter and producer for the movie adaptations of many of her books.
“I really like the author and how she encapsulates teenagers’ thoughts,” Shoemaker said. “I also really like how she does different perspectives.”
If you like sweet romance and want a light book to read, “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” would be a great book to read.
