Freshman Liam Bell has recently read “The Silence of the Lambs” by Thomas Harris.
“It was a mystery that you could follow along with,” Bell said. “You could guess what was going to happen next.”
The book follows the perspective of Clorice Starling, an FBI trainee, who is tasked to solve a series of serial murders. In order to unravel these crimes, she utilizes the intelligence of Hannibal Lector, who unbeknownst to her, is another serial killer.
“I chose to read this book because I had heard a lot about Hannibal Lector,” Bell said. “I am big into the horror department, so I thought it would be a really interesting read. Dr. Stanford, who is a literary teacher, recommended it to me, and I have just fallen in love with it.”
Thomas Harris is an American writer and author of several suspense novels that began his career covering real world crime stories for the Associated Press in New York City. He is most widely known for his book “The Silence of the Lambs.”
“I wouldn’t recommend this book for those that are a little bit squeamish,” Bell said. “I’d recommend it for people who have read similar horrors.”
The narrative examines sexism in the law enforcement industry as the female main character is often objectified and underappreciated. She overcomes these prejudices and proves her worth as a female investigator by solving her complicated case against all odds.
