Chemistry teacher Christie Leanza is currently reading “Five Ways to do Qualitative Research” by Frederick J. Ware.
“In my dissertation, I am interested in researching student engagement,” Leanza said. “Looking at how certain types of activities impact teacher enjoyment, and so I’m trying to understand qualitative research.”
The book analyzes the similarities and differences in the approaches of qualitative research. It gives examples on each form, giving them value and showing that there is not simply one form that is superior to the others. The five forms of research detailed in the book are phenomenological psychology, grounded theory, discourse analysis, narrative research, and intuitive inquiry.
“Intuitive inquiry is something I have not really thought of and it’s pretty cool,” Leanza said.
