Junior Kaitlyn Horton has recently read “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson. It is a mystery book for the younger generation.
“I love the story line and tension between characters,” Horton said. “The plot, the characters, and the mystery part.”
This book is the first in a series of three.
The setting takes place in a made-up area called Little Kilton, Buckingshamire. In Pippa’s, the main character’s, village there was a girl who no one speaks of. That girl was murdered five years ago. Her body was never found and it seems as if everyone has forgotten about it.
The case was an open and shut case meaning the police quickly decided that her boyfriend had done it, but there was no evidence. For a school project, Pippa decides to study the case, but maybe everyone is right and her boyfriend was the killer, or maybe the killer is doing a good job of making it seem so.
“It teaches you that you can’t trust everyone,” Horton said.
Author Holly Jackson was born in 1992 and she is best known for “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” which sold millions of copies worldwide. She wrote the first book in 2019, and went on to write the other three, one year after another. She is best known for her mystery books. Some of them are “Five Survive,” “As Good as Dead,” and “Kill Joy.”
“I would recommend this book for middle schoolers or high schoolers because it’s good, and a good mystery,” Horton said.
The overall theme of the book is that the truth always comes out no matter how hard you try to hide it. No matter how bad the truth is, it is better to let it out.
“A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” is available for anyone interested in the murder and mystery genre.
