Freshman Landry Hunter spent this week reading “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins.
“I like it, because it’s suspenseful and very exciting,” Hunter said. “I also like how it’s almost like a romance, and it has everything in it so it’s not focused on one specific thing.”
“The Hunger Games” takes place in a dystopian future where people are selected from certain districts to compete and fight in a competition. The main character, Katniss Everdeen, gets selected after volunteering for her sister after she was selected. She then goes through a series of challenges to survive and win.
Author Suzanne Collins gained fame for the series. There are three other books within the series: “Catching Fire,” “Mocking Jay,” and “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” All four books have been made into films with “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” coming to theaters later this year.
The overall themes of this book center around survival of the fittest, power, and violence. The book also focuses on physical and psychological health.
