On this week’s episode, the theme was “Music Video Night” and points were scored out of 40. Paula Abdul appeared as guest judge.
The remaining couples competed in two different rounds. The first was a dance tribute to Britney Spears. In the second round, competitors had to perform a routine from a song from a dance style of their choice to earn bonus points.
For the first round, the choreography was inspired by the original music video dancers.
The couple with the highest points was safe from the elimination round and would not have to compete in next week’s dance off. They also earned bonus points that will be counted for next week.
My favorite couple this week was Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov because they performed “Slave 4 U” by Britney Spears. They performed the routine with the most accurate expressions from the original music video.
In round two, each team had to perform a freestyle routine and compete against the other team to earn up to 40 points from the judges.
Harry Jowsey was in charge of his team called Young’N Style, and Alison Karagash was in charge of her team called Team 4 everybody. Young’N Style received the season’s first perfect score of 40 points. Team 4 everybody received a ten from judge Abdul and nine from the rest, making the total a 37 out of 40 points.
Those points will be added to each team’s scores from round one. In first place there was a tie between Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov, and Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy. Both teams earned a total of 74 points.
At the bottom was Harry Jowsey and Rylee Arnold with 64 points. Harry and Rylee received a six from each coach, and from the team dance they received a perfect score.
This week’s elimination were Lele Pons and Brandon Armstrong. Lele and Brandon received 33 out of 40 points in the first round, and 40 points from the second round, giving them a total of 73 points. They had the lowest votes from the audience.
Next week’s theme will be “Whitney Houston Night” and there will be a guest judge as well as a team dance off where the remaining six couples will divide into three groups of two teams and perform songs from Whitney Houston.
You can stream “Dancing with the Stars” live every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+. Viewers are allowed to vote until the last commercial break.
