Taylor Swift made another remarkable advance in her career, releasing her Eras Tour movie directly to theaters.
Taylor said that she released this movie to provide her fans the concert-going experience but at a much cheaper price than actual stadium concert tickets.
With the infamous Ticketmaster war, many Swifties were denied their chance of getting to see Taylor in person. The $500 tickets, not even including some of the resale prices, were brought down to $20.
Being a part of the group of Swifties that were not able to get concert tickets, I knew that I needed to see her in real life. I never thought that my first in person experience with Taylor would be in the same theater that I had cried, laughed, and screamed in.
The Eras Tour film really gave me the chance to see her in another form outside of social media. My Swiftie instinct knew that the movie would not disappoint. It brought my dreams to life.
Whether you had a crazy theater or a calm one, people were singing along and dancing in their seats. People came dressed up in all sorts of costumes. Depending on certain seats in the stadiums, the movie just might have been a better experience.
Trying to make my experience as fulfilling as possible, I bought the merch, made a costume, and sang along to the chants and songs.
I knew that the movie would be fun either way, but I really wanted to go all out as if I were going on the real tour.
I stayed up late to make the iconic “Junior Jewels” costume from her “You Belong With Me” music video. I reviewed the chants the night before, just to make sure I was ready, and I showed my Swiftie experience by smiling and serenading the theater with my awful voice. I found it to be much more enjoyable when going above and beyond.
Out of the entire movie, the “Evermore” and “1989” albums stuck out to me the most. I thought that her performance during the song “Tolerate It” was out of this world. Taylor and the actor that she was with gave so much emotion while correlating with the song’s lyrics.
It was really cool how Taylor was able to give such a powerful and moving experience while giving her best performance singing the song. I gathered so much emotion from this act and the era as a whole.
“1989” was also a significant era. Swift seemed like she was having a great time, while including her stage crew and the audience. It was a memorable and energetic album. I loved the outfit she was wearing and I loved the songs that she chose to include in the film.
Taylor is known for the details that she puts behind her work. However, the release of this film was truly groundbreaking. There have been many examples of her leadership in the music and film industry, including taking control of her recording rights and now releasing her tour movie directly to theaters.
Beyoncé is releasing a film on her tour similar to the concept and timing of Swift’s film. Bad Boy Records, a music company, is giving quotes saying that they are letting the artists have full rights to their music, similar to Swift’s previous battle with Scooter Braun.
Taylor Swift’s influence extends beyond the song charts and the Eras Tour is simply the next step in her evolution as a true music artist.
This evolution continues on October 27 with the release of “1989 (Taylor’s version).”
