Cheers & Jeers

Cheers to both cross country teams for being region champs. At the weekend race at One Church, the top four finishers in boys varsity were all held by Starr’s Mill runners, with the times all being under eighteen minutes. Starr’s Mill also had the sixth, eighth, and 11th place finishers. The girls had six runners place in the top nine positions.

Cheers to the Spider-Man 2 video game. Now available for the PS5, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 game takes the player through an adaptation of the Venom saga. It is the third game in the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, the first being Marvel’s Spider-Man 2018, and the second, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales 2020.

Cheers to nature. As much as the cold weather has sucked, nature has just been beautiful lately. Something about the transition from summer to fall is special. It is just so cool to see nature work its magic as leaves change colors and trees become barren.

Cheers to Halloween and haunted houses. Halloween, also known as “Spooky Season,” is by far one of the best holidays to be celebrated. It makes eating an absurd amount of candy while dressed up as who-knows-what a socially acceptable thing to do.

Cheers to winter sports starting. Now that the fall sports seasons are coming close to an end, it is time for the winter sports to pick up the hype. This year, Starr’s Mill has teams in wrestling, dance, varsity girls and boys basketball, junior varsity girls and boys basketball, freshmen boys basketball, and for the first time ever a freshmen girls basketball team. Go Panthers!

Jeers to it being dark out at 7:30 p.m. Honestly, I really do not like driving home from practice and it already being sunset out. It makes me feel like I have less time to do homework and other things and like it is later than it really is.

Jeers to the sickness going around. Like every school year, it is sickness season again. Whether it is a cold, a flu, or a stomach bug, the annual school sickness is doing its rounds again. Make sure you wash your hands. Please. You know who you are.

Jeers to Halloween falling on a weekday. Nothing is worse than having to go to school on Halloween. Having to sit in class while thinking about all the preparation and costume building you could be doing is just plain torture. Not to mention, when the trick-or-treating has actually begun, the looming thought of homework and having to go to school the next day is the scariest thing of all.

Jeers to Christmas decorations. People. Listen closely: it is not Christmas time. Turn Mariah Carey off. Put the lights away. Send Santa back to the North Pole. We have not even celebrated Thanksgiving yet. It is not even Halloween yet!

Jeers to the volleyball match up against Pace. Out of the eight remaining teams in AAAA, four of them are from our region. However, Starr’s Mill is pitted to play against Pace, last year’s state champions. Come cheer on the Panthers at tonight’s game. Go Panthers!
