As more and more rich celebrities find themselves amidst horrific allegations, being able to afford anything and everything may not be as gratifying as it appears.
Seen through current examples involving P. Diddy and Jeffrey Epstein, no matter the amount of fortune or power people gain, it will never be enough to satisfy their greedy human nature.
In July of 2019, Epstein, a financier worth over $500 million, was arrested for alleged sex trafficking of minors. Not only was he accused, but many powerful, high-profile individuals are alleged to have known or contributed to his offenses.
While many celebrities may cope using drugs or affairs, some, like Epstein, resort to horrific and non-consensual means. It just seems high-profile people fall into scandals and commit horrific acts more than the general population, and it is not due to them just being born that way or Hollywood only being an opening for bad people.
Recently, charges relating to Sean Combs have surfaced, going viral and leaving many to question Hollywood as they know it. While P. Diddy appears to be the mastermind behind the hostile parties with heavy drugs, rapes, and possible minors involved, many high-profile celebrities are alleged to have attended his parties and been complicit in his crimes.
The problems for both Diddy and Epstein came from their constant greed. They had everything to the point where they could buy anything they wanted, but that was not enough.
In a resort to satisfy their dissatisfaction, they turned to illegal means.
According to a 2018 Harvard study, people whose wealth exceeds $8-10 million have only a slight difference in their happiness “small in absolute magnitude.”
In the end, the cost of fortune, of having everything, means nothing. Nobody in Hollywood is any less or more happy than anyone else in the world, and pushing and wanting for more will never amount to any more satisfaction than a regular job.
The problem persists when people’s dissatisfaction begins to harm not only their own lives but other people’s.
Many resort to committing sexual crimes, and that causes significant damage. Those acts hurt not only the victim but the victim’s as well as the perpetrator’s family, all innocent people who have to live with the acts of someone looking for a dopamine hit.
The grass always seems greener on the other side. No matter what, the human race will never be able to properly cope with their constant feeling of greed.
As much as we may think money will solve all our problems, it is important to understand it will not. Buying the next trend or being able to flex millions of dollars will not end our desires. It is not money that ruins us, it is having everything.
What we need to do on our path to success is pick a focus, family or career, and strive for that, not money or fame or power.
The problem with reaching for money and fame is that these goals, while attained by few, do have a limit. At some point, there is an amount of money that can buy anything or an influence which causes everyone to respect and abide by you.
Focusing on a career is something which even if high-up, there is always more knowledge or promotions or businesses. Family is something which again, will never hit an ideal maximum.
What we need to do is entertain our minds with something to reach for, knowing our satisfaction will never be perfect.
Complete satisfaction is never reached. There is always something unattainable to want, and it is our job to realize it and fix it before we end up falling into a downward spiral and hurting those around us.
