Does anyone know why it is 79 degrees in November? I get that Georgia weather has always been wacky, but this is weird even for Georgia. While you are pondering the weirdness of the weather, check out this week’s KICs. This week we have an underground car park being flooded, an officer sentenced for murder, a Fayetteville driver opening fire at a car, and Donald Trump being the 47th Presidential elect.
World – Underground car park searched after devastating flooding hits Barcelona
On October 28, devastating flooding hit Barcelona. A Valencia car park by a shopping mall was completely submerged in the floodwater. No fatalities have been confirmed, and the parking area is still mostly underwater as rescuers search for survivors.
Drones were used to search the flooded parking area initially and then police officers and other first responders arrived on the site. When asked by BBC News how much longer the search would take, a local police officer answered that he is not sure but that they will remain there as long as necessary. Thus far, 50 vehicles have been searched near the entrance of the park.
The region’s media has released footage of partially submerged vehicles and a flooded bus, but Spain’s interior minister refuses to announce a number of how many people are suspected missing due to the flood. Currently, debris lines the roads and loud generators continue to pump out water from the car park.
National – Ex officer found guilty in the 2020 shooting death of Andre Hill
On Monday, a former police officer was convicted of murder. The officer shot and killed a Black man who was only holding a cell phone and keys.
Former officer Adam Coy, who served almost 20 years in the Columbus police force, shot Hill four times in a garage almost four years ago. Coy lost his job due to the shooting. He told jurors that he thought Hill was holding a weapon, a silver revolver that turned out to be keys.
Prosecutors of the case insisted that Coy should be sentenced immediately for the despicable crime he has done. Franklin County Judge Stephen McIntosh set a sentencing date of November 25, 2024.
Local – Fayetteville driver opens fire on car he thought was following him home
On November 6, a man thought he was being followed and opened fire at the suspected car that was following him. Joshua Carbin, age 25, later turned himself into authorities.
Officers were first alerted to the shooting at 7:20 p.m. The driver drove himself to Piedmont Fayetteville Hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound. The officers found a 9mm casing along Stanley Road near Westside.
Cabin surrendered to the authorities believing that he had shot someone who was following him. He was charged with aggravated assault, battery, and firearms possession during a crime.
Politics – Trump takes the win in places not expected
For the first time in six straight presidential elections Republicans won the battleground state Pennsylvania. Alongside Pennsylvania, President Donalad Trump also won other “blue wall” states Michigan and Wisconsin.
It is said that more people this year have worried that they are not keeping up with the economic environment and chose to vote for President Trump in hope of some relief. Many blamed President Joe Biden for these struggles and believed that Vice President Kamala Harris would continue the same path. Even with Vice President Harris running a strong campaign it was met with many hardships due to those reasons.
In Pennsylvania, President Trump won in a landslide of 2% and had an increase of approval from previous elections of 5%. He also won Wisconsin by less then a point and Michigan by about 80,000 votes.
