With change comes growth for Starr’s Mill. Even though school is coming to a close, that does not mean changes are not. We are welcoming a new principal, vice principal, football head coach, cheerleading coach, track and field coach, and girls basketball head coach. This week we have attacks and battles on Hamas forces, a U.S. ambassador’s granddaughter possibly found, a lethal car accident, and a Lyft driver brutally murdered.
World – Israel Continues to battle regrouped Hamas forces
The Israeli military sent out a more potent attack on northern Gaza last week. They were fighting against regrouped Hamas soldiers.
Israel has spoken up and believes that they have to invade Rafah, a city in the south of Israel. Refugees were reported as being seen evacuating there. Israel is trying desperately to destroy Hamas.
Israel has sustained a heavy loss of life over the last few months due to this conflict and is desperately trying to end the conflict. About 360,000 people have evacuated due to the conflict and lack of supplies such as food and proper medicine.
National – Boat that Killed US Ambassadors Granddaughter potentially found
Last Saturday, U.S. ambassador Belgium Michael M. Adler’s 15 year-old granddaughter Ella Adler was struck and killed by a boat near Key Biscayne, Florida. It was said that young Adler was water skiing and fell off. She was then struck by a boat around 4:30 p.m.
The boat found matches the description of the one that killed Adler and is currently in custody of the authorities along with the owner of the boat who is cooperating with the investigation. It was said that the boat did not stop and help after striking Adler. Many are grieving the loss of Adler as she was described as a star and such a sweet girl.
As of right now the police are asking if anyone has any knowledge or video evidence of the accident that they should come forward and give it to the police. They are currently offering a $20,000 reward for any information to help put the case to rest.
State – Fatal car accident on 400
Late Wednesday night, there was a car accident on Georgia 400. The crash was a single vehicle crash with one fatality.
First responders arrived at 9:15 p.m. According to the officers, they saw the car flipped upside down with one person inside. He was pronounced dead once the paramedics arrived.
The accident occurred near the I-85 interchange. The person has not been identified, and authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
Local – Lyft driver murdered without reason by former officer
Last Wednesday, a man named Reginald Folks, age 35, was found dead in his car after people heard gunshots and informed police.
Responding to a Lyft customer, Folks picked up a former Atlanta police officer and gave him a ride. During the ride it is unclear exactly what transpired, but Folks was shot by the former officer and left to pass away there.
Family have expressed condolences, especially Folks’s mom who is grieving and in shock. According to the Atlantic Police Department, the incident is currently under investigation.
