Senior Ella Griswold recently earned the Stamp Scholarship from Mercer University.
She is one of 10 recipients out of over 10,000 applicants nationwide. Griswold is one of two Fayette County students who earned the award.
The Stamp Scholarship is available to any student who portrays leadership, perseverance, scholarship, service to humankind, and innovation. The award covers the full tuition as well as housing and food.
The Stamp Scholarship was derived from Penny Stamp. She launched the award for her and her husband’s alma maters. It has now grown to become an international system of 2,600 scholars and alumni.
“I really appreciate the environment they have [at Mercer],” Griswold said. “Everyone I’ve met from there is extremely supportive and kind.”
Griswold is an exemplary student at Starr’s Mill. She was awarded the STAR Student award, is a state champion in speech and debate, and has a growing list of other impressive accomplishments.
Griswold has yet to commit to a college, but she has already decided her major.
“My plan, regardless of where I go, is to do pre-pharmacy,” Griswold said. “I want to do clinical ambulatory care.”
Griswold is appreciative of all of her classes. She expresses that they have helped her with the overall application process for this scholarship.
