“Musings,” the Starr’s Mill literary-art magazine, is currently accepting submissions for its 21st edition.
It is a great opportunity for students to have their creative works published for a wider audience to enjoy.
The book is composed of student-made works, including poems, essays, short stories, photos, digital art, traditional art, writing in foreign languages with the translation, sculptures, jewelry, and even sheet music.
“There’s so many different genres of art and writing and storytelling in there,” editor-in-chief Briana Harris-Otero said. “It’s really inspiring to see so many different ideas from so many different people in the same building.”
The theme of this year’s magazine is “Discovery,” but any work, no matter its message, can be submitted. The creative writing is responsible for putting the magazine together and they have posted QR codes directing students to the submission form for those that wish to submit their work.
Those that submit have a chance to be selected and have their work compete in a literary-art magazine competition for schools all over the state. Simply being a published author or artist looks good on resumes and winning recognition in this competition would be an even greater achievement.
“I really like collaborating with artistic people to help other artistic people get to see their own work in the spotlight,” Harris-Otero said.
If your work is accepted by the Musings staff, you will receive a notice and can expect to purchase the magazine yourself sometime before the academic year ends.
If you have any further questions regarding submissions or the magazine in general, speak with Dr. Bonnie Stanford in room 708.
