PBIS has announced December’s Staff Member of the Month and Students of the Month
Nutrition and wellness teacher Adriah Williams and assistant principal Dr. Elise Heaton nominated business teacher Jeff Klein. He was chosen due to making sure everyone is taken care of as well.
“With his entrepreneurship class throughout the entire semester he’s been working really hard to partner with communities and organizations in the area to secure gifts for a staff holiday lunch that we had in December,” Heaton said.
Other staff members nominated were assistant principal Elise Heaton, math teachers Heather McNally, Emily Sweeney, and Dr. Nick Castagna, paraprofessional Marcie Comeau, English teacher Whitney Shoemaker, media specialist Rick Wright, science teacher Samantha Krage, social studies teacher Joseph Bara, and special education teacher Dr. Luke Hearn.
English teacher and journalism adviser Justin Spencer nominated senior Micah Freeman as upperclassman of the month. He was nominated due to his kind-hearted nature and his ability to lead and be an example of what people can look up to and learn from.
“A great leader is one who is willing to take time to recognize the achievements and accomplishments, in this case his fellow classmates and journalists,” Spencer said.
The other upperclassman nominee was senior Lily Boss.
Nutrition and wellness teacher Adriah Williams nominated sophomore Cale Adams. He was nominated due to his hard working ability and his motivation to step up.
“I had a group that had a member that couldn’t participate for health reasons and he just jumped up and went in the kitchen and immediately started helping him cook,” Williams said. “He went from not being engaged to volunteering and doing everything on his own.”
Other underclassmen nominated were sophomores Paul Vasquez, Lucas Aguilera, and Chloe Tucker, and freshmen Lorelai Lockley, Jimenez Luca, Sophia Williams, Colton Gemmer, and Damari Hawes.
Once a month Heaton, the assistant principal in charge of PBIS, sends out a link to the staff so that they can nominate teachers and students on their good mannerism. The PBIS committee, composed of Heaton, a PBIS coach, and other staff, voted on the PBIS staff and students of the month.
“The PBIS program at Starr’s Mill helps us focus on the three core values that we want all of our students and staff to exhibit on a daily basis: respect, accountability, and responsibility,” Heaton. “So with PBIS and focusing on these three things we can celebrate the positive things going on in our building instead of the negative things, which will hopefully encourage others to show those positive values as well.”
