PBIS has announced October’s Staff Member of the Month and Students of the Month.
Science teacher Kelly Rock nominated fellow science teacher Samantha Krage. She was nominated for being so involved with the students and dedicated to teaching.
“Since she’s joined the school she has jumped in and volunteered to help out with many things,” Rock said. “Including the PBIS committee as well as picking up a new course, physics.”
Other staff members nominated were parapro Ilona Canada, principal’s secretary Joye Marchman, math teacher Emily Sweeney, and science teacher Amy Hinote.
Science teacher Kelly Rock nominated junior Rory Crane for upperclassman of the month. Crane was chosen for her passion and dedication to AP biology.
“Although she is very quiet in class, she is very knowledgeable,” Rock said. “She shows a great passion in biology outside of the classroom.”
Other upperclassmen nominated were seniors Evan Fish and Kyler Reeves.
Math teacher Heather McNally nominated freshman Breehannah-Princess Destin for Underclassman of the Month. She was chosen for her great work at turning her grade around.
“She’s just been working really hard to get her math grade up,” McNally said. “She pays really close attention, does all her homework, and works well with her classmates.”
Breehannah-Princess Destin was the only underclassman nominated this month.
Once a month Elise Heaton, the assistant principal in charge of PBIS, sends out a link to the staff so that they can nominate teachers and students on their good mannerism. The PBIS committee, composed of Heaton, a PBIS coach, and other staff, voted on the PBIS staff and students of the month.
“The PBIS program at Starr’s Mill helps us focus on the three core values that we want all of our students and staff to exhibit on a daily basis: respect, accountability, and responsibility,” assistant principal Elise Heaton. “So with PBIS and focusing on these three things we can celebrate the positive things going on in our building instead of the negative things, which will hopefully encourage others to show those positive values as well.”
