PBIS has announced September’s Staff Member of the Month and Student of the Month.
Speech language pathologist Shannon Gagliano, math teacher Heather McNally, and English teacher Whitney Shoemaker nominated math teacher Kristin Peavyhouse. She was chosen due to her dedication to Starr’s Mill and assistance in Homecoming planning.
“She led our group of sponsors and is very organized,” Gagliano said. “She gathered parents as well so we could have the most help that we could have to make a good dance.”
Other staff members nominated were Science teachers Melissa Beaulieu and Amy Hinote, Social studies teachers Sean Hickey and Rebecca Rickeard, math teachers Tony Kluemper and Michelle Genovese, English teachers Katie Tucker and Whitney Shoemaker, Spanish teachers Shayne Thompson and Marcela Sample, health teacher and coach Peyton Dean, bookkeeper Brenda Adams, InfiniteCampus clerk Kirsten Brooks, and athletics secretary Sarah Hammond.
English teacher Terence Fitzgerald nominated junior John Pfister for Upperclassmen of the Month. Pfister was chosen due to his dedication to his education.
“He’s really good at listening to my feedback and staying engaged,” Fitzgerald said. ”He’s really interested in learning.”
Other upperclassmen nominees included seniors Joseph Wilkins, Evan Fish, Evelyn Rubenstein, Camyrn Knight, and Quinton Bird.
English teacher and journalism adviser Justin Spencer nominated sophomore Maggie Mendes for Underclassman of the Month. She was chosen because she takes accountability for her work.
“She was working to adjust herself to my particular teaching style and took it upon herself to have a one-on-one conversations with me,” Spencer said. “For a sophomore to do that stuck out to me.”
Other underclassmen nominees included freshman Braxton Rein, Kristen Ware, and Maddox Mothershed, and sophomores Layton Hicks, Raegan Collins, Molly Fish, Ashley Kate Gagliano, and Kayla Peavyhouse.
Once a month Elise Heaton, the assistant principal in charge of PBIS, sends out a link to the staff so that they can nominate teachers and students on their good mannerism. The PBIS committee, composed of Heaton, a PBIS coach, and other staff, voted on the PBIS staff and students of the month.
“The PBIS program at Starr’s Mill helps us focus on the three core values that we want all of our students and staff to exhibit on a daily basis: respect, accountability, and responsibility,” assistant principal Elise Heaton. “So with PBIS and focusing on these three things we can celebrate the positive things going on in our building instead of the negative things, which will hopefully encourage others to show those positive values as well.”
