The Starr’s Mill literary team placed first in their regional competition this past Monday.
“This is the first time we won first in quite some time,” head coach and drama director Lauren Kuykendell said.
Literary competitions consist of literary interpretations of written works, essays, and musical events.
GHSA recognizes literary competitions as a sport. This leads to winning competitions factoring into the Director’s Cup standings for Starr’s Mill.
Panthers now advancing to state include seniors Julian Agudelo, Rush Maples, Seth Myers, and Kate Hamilton. Their events are men’s solo, argumentative essay, and duo dramatic interpretation, respectively.
“It was fun to see all the other schools and their literary interpretations,” Katie Hamilton said. “I’m excited to go to state.”
The state competition takes place on March 23 at Buford High School.
