Musings magazine earned a superior rating from the Georgia Scholastic Press Association for last year’s magazine.
In addition, class of 2023 graduate Elise Gimpert earned an All-Georgia rating for her story titled, ”The Half White Carnival.” Junior Isabella Manning earned superior for a photograph taken called “A Desolate Mirage.”
“[The magazine] helps students put their more creative foot out,” senior Maiah Pamor said. “It also gives students a chance to be published, especially with music because we submit them to competitions and it can open up more opportunities for them.”
The Musings magazine is a completely student-produced magazine with current creative writing teacher Ashley Collins as adviser. Fellow English teacher Dr. Bonnie Stanford also helped produce the 2023 magazine.
The magazine is created by the students in Collins’s creative writing class. They split up the two semesters to make things easier while putting the magazine together. The first semester is spent writing, and during the second semester, the class splits into two groups: one that writes, and the other that takes photos and creates art.
“[The magazine] is another way for the arts to be expressed,” Collins said.
Any currently enrolled Starr’s Mill student can enter submissions to the magazine. If you want to submit to the Musings magazine, you can submit to them online. There are fliers hanging around the school and in classrooms with QR codes.
