The Starr’s Mill Pantherettes choreographed and performed their own dances with their chosen partners. This annual event helped the team raise funds for future competitions and additional expenses in the program.
Juniors Ella Long and Lathan Hunter won first place. Sophomores Kayla Foppe and Luke Hofrichter earned second, while seniors Lizzie Peebles and Ethan Bramblett placed third. The student’s choice award went to juniors Emily Purcer and Micah Seitz. People’s choice went to juniors Ella Long and Lathan Hunter.
“One of our friends helped us choreograph, Camden Smith,” sophomore Kayla Foppe said. They picked the song “Crank That” by Soulja Boy because of the costumes that they would wear.
Sophomores Naza Bueno and Alex Ruiz won the best costume award. The last award, best choreography, went to junior Zariyah Dogan and senior Carson Brownell.
“I chose him [Lathan Hunter] because I knew he would commit to it and I knew he would practice it at home, which he did,” Long said. “We did like five practices which were like 30 minutes each … and we practiced at home.”
Dancing with the Pantherettes has been an interactive tradition for nine years. The audience shows incredible support whether clapping along to the music or donating to the fundraiser. The Pantherettes plan to keep this event going for the many upcoming years.
