Starr’s Mill student journalists will return to Atlanta Motor Speedway to learn from Atlanta-based media experts. The field trip is a continuation of The Prowler’s partnership with Atlanta Motor Speedway and NASCAR Media.
“I think it’s important to do the field trip because it gives you an opportunity to see first-hand where media members work and how they experience a race weekend,” Vice President of Marketing and Promotion Dustin Bixby said.
This field trip is a great way for the writers to learn from professionals and look at possible future career paths. The students will tour the AMS media workspaces and meet the media team. Students will also talk to media reps, tour the speedway’s facilities, and experience the high banks of the racetrack for themselves with a ride in the pace car.
“We thought it’s always great to be able to help kids figure out where they want to go and what they want to do with their career,” Bixby said.
In the past, Prowler journalists have covered media day events and entire race weekends at the 1.5-mile track in Hampton, Georgia. This year’s field trip allows Starr’s Mill student journalists to talk with various members of the media regarding their paths into sports journalism, public relations, and communications.
“It’s important that we give all of our students more and more opportunities to experience how they can take the things that they’ve learned in classrooms and put them into effect and apply them in the real world,” Principal Allen Leonard said.
