Starr’s Mill National Honor Society inducted 102 new members last night.

“National Honor Society takes that academic excellence and goes a little further,” Principal Allen Leonard said.

The ceremony took place in Duke Auditorium and consisted of officers speaking to the new members, a speech by Leonard, and the new members receiving certificates verifying their induction.

Requirements to get into NHS include having a minimum GPA of 3.85, holding at least one leadership position in a club or on a team, and completing at least 10 service hours. Potential inductees must also be a junior or senior who has been enrolled at Starr’s Mill for at least one semester.

“[NHS] is valuable in terms of applying to college,” NHS sponsor and English teacher Kelly Corallo said.

Of the 108 students who applied to be part of NHS, 102 met the requirements and were accepted.

There are now 158 current members of NHS at Starr’s Mill.
