From Feb. 20-22, the Panther baseball program will hold a youth camp from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Starr’s Mill baseball field.

“We do it as a fundraiser, but we also do it to keep kids involved,” head coach Brent Moseley said. “Some of these players that we have now went to this little kids camp, and some of them have been coming around our team since second, third or fourth grade.”

This camp is not only a fundraiser for the baseball team but also provides an opportunity for the high school players to teach and interact with younger players. The players attending this camp will be taught  the basics of the sport and how to apply them on the field.

“We want to keep it so that these kids that come want to play for Starr’s Mill and have the opportunity to,” Moseley said. “We teach them the basics so that they can use them later on.”

Program participants practice fundamentals for two days, and on the last day, they play a game against each other. To work on the basics, they go to stations that teach hitting, pitching, and fielding. The game on the last day lasts 45 minutes and gives the kids an opportunity to show off what they’ve learned.

“We try to teach them that baseball is fun,” Moseley said. “Baseball is a slow game unless you really understand what’s going on, so we try to focus on fun.”
