It’s always a plus for students to broaden their knowledge in an environment outside of the classroom. Last Friday, 270 honor and STEM physics students applied what teachers Joseph Perrotta, Ryan Mewborn, and Dr. Stephen Clark instilled in them through every loop, dip, and 200-ft. drop at the Six Flags Amusement Park. “At Six Flags, our students are immersed in the physics we have been learning all year,” Perrotta said. “The trip is a great opportunity for our students to apply formulas and discover that they really do apply to the world around them.” Students had the task of completing a several-page packet that covered all of the year’s concepts. While frantically answering projectile and G-force problems, they explored every ride in the park from the time it opened at 9 a.m. until the gates closed at 5 p.m. Participants paid $57.50, which covered park admission, transportation, a lunch, blue physics formula T-shirt, and a complimentary ticket to the White Water theme park. “It was great,” junior Owen Handle said. “The work took barely any time and the rides were fun, especially Batman.” Junior Brenna Hansen said she loved spending time with friends and going on the Dare Devil for the first time.
