After walking out the doors of the school as a Panther in 2001, Alex Hughes, returns to the familiar halls of Starr’s Mill, but this time, as an author.
Hughes, better known as Alexandra Capell , will return Wednesday to sign copies of her book, “Clean,” which is the first of a trilogy in her Mindspace Investigations series.
The book, set in Decatur, enters the eccentric realms of science fiction as it tells the story of a telepath who must work to stop a serial killer in a dystopian society.
“There really isn’t another book like it,” freshman Lydia Powell said. Along with her new thriller, Hughes has also written various short stories such as “Sorry I Broke the Universe” and “Cartoon Bastard Clouds” and two other novels.
Not only will she return for a signing after school between 3:20 and 4:20 p.m., but she will also pay a visit to British and AP Literature teacher Jill Bowen’s Creative Writing class during sixth period where she will talk to them about the journey of becoming a writer and the struggles involved in becoming a published author.
“I’m hoping something she will say will inspire them and tell them that (writing a book) can be done,” Bowen said.
Later, she will join the Ex Libris club as a guest reader to discuss her book with the club’s members, many of whom are eager to learn more about her interesting style of writing and where she got her inspiration for the book.
To venture into the mystifying world of Hughes’ imagination, stop by the Media Center anytime and get your hands on a copy of the book, which can be purchased for $6.
