For the third time in school history, the band’s Wind Ensemble was chosen to perform at the University of Georgia’s “JanFest”. As one of eight bands selected, the 41-member group performed for the nearly 1,000 high school band students who attended the 63rd annual JanFest Thursday night.
JanFest is UGA’s four-day clinic for high school students looking to learn from UGA musicians as well as featured performers from around the state.
According to Panther band director Scott King, “Being chosen to perform is an honor.” For the Mill’s Wind Ensemble to be considered, King said he had to send a 30-minute recording of the Wind Ensemble to the JanFest organizers. Bands can only be selected to perform every four years. The last time the Panthers had the honor of entertaining at JanFest was five years ago, King said.
“We were excited to show all the students and organizers at JanFest how hard the band’s been working all year for this concert,” sophomore oboist Elise Conti said.
“I thought we played very well,” King said. While at the tournament, JanFest organizers presented King with an award for the Wind Ensemble for being one of the chosen bands.
