Thursday night, two lucky contestants came one step closer to being crowned Miss Starr’s Mill 2013. But the 26 other contestants still have Friday night’s competition leading to Saturday night’s finals.
After the first night of preliminaries, junior Michelle Smart walked away with casual and evening wear awards, two of the three awards presented.
Senior Micole Mayfield was lost for words after being named the talent award for her singing. “This is all so overwhelming,” Mayfield said. “There was so much talent, I never would have expected any of this,” she said.
Along with the royal title, a few lucky contestants will collectively win $7,000 worth of scholarship money, said pageant director David Spearman. The 12th annual scholarship pageant continues Friday night in the Willie Duke Auditorium at 7 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, where contestants will participate in a five-minute interview by the panel of judges. The top 10 contestants will again perform their talents. Friday is the last night of preliminaries where contestants will continue showcasing their talents and modeling evening and casual wear. At the conclusion of the competition, the professional panel of judges will deliberate on who will become Miss Starr’s Mill 2013.
Tickets are available in the main office and at the door. Ticket prices are $7 per night or $15 for a three-night pass.
