Football head coach David Cooper is the February recipient of the Golden Apple award. He was selected by December’s recipient Scott King.

He inherited a successful program and kept many of the traditions and methods that worked, but also carefully inserted his brand of football,” King said. “He is a role model for his staff, players, and other faculty members through his leadership, dedication, and pursuit of continued improvement.”

Cooper believes that he generally has more time to spend with his players. He believes his job and his time as a coach help them become better individuals by spending a little more time with them.

Cooper attended Fayette County High School and has been a Fayette County local his entire life. He graduated from the University of North Georgia and has been in the Fayette County school system for about 20 years. He has worked at Starr’s Mill for 10 years.

His son plays baseball, and his daughter plays soccer. Due to his position as a football coach, he must continuously go between fields.

“I juggle my kids schedule so I don’t have a lot of free time coaching in general, but when I do I like to spend time with them.”

Cooper receives $100 from Farmers Insurance to spend on curriculum and instruction. He will also receive a free large pizza from Buck’s Pizza, a gift certificate to Lisa’s Creperie in Senoia, a goodie bag from Safelite Auto, and a free haircut from Main Hair in Peachtree City.
