Math teacher Tony Kluemper is the September recipient of the Golden Apple award. He was selected by August recipient Nicholas Gillies.
“He seems to enjoy what he’s doing, and I know he holds the students to a high standard,” Gillies said. “He also works with them so they can achieve success and challenge in the class.”
Kluemper believes that in school he should be teaching his students critical thinking in the form of math. He tries to teach students how to think through things in the classroom so that can be translated into everyday life.
“Even as a math teacher I realize [you’re] probably not going to use calculus a lot in your everyday life, but you will use those problem solving skills,” Kluemper said.
Kluemper has been teaching for 17 years and has taught at various schools. This is his seventh year at Starr’s Mill. Kluemper is also head coach of the varsity girls lacrosse teams.
“I really think school spirit is a great thing,” Kluemper said. “It helps build the culture of the school.”
Outside of the classroom, Kluemper enjoys working out and hiking.
Kluemper receives $100 from Farmers Insurance to spend on curriculum and instruction. He will also receive a free large pizza from Buck’s Pizza, a gift certificate to Lisa’s Creperie in Senoia, a goodie bag from Safelite Auto, and a free haircut from Main Hair in Peachtree City.
