Spanish teacher Laura Alldredge is the February recipient of the Golden Apple award. She was selected by January’s recipient Samantha Krage.
“I chose Sra. Alldredge because she does her job extremely well,” Krage said. “Regardless of the activities she does before or after school, she is dedicated to her students and helps them want to learn.”
Alldredge is not only committed to helping her students master the Spanish language, but also building personal relationships with them.
“I love teaching because I love building relationships with young people,” Alldredge said.
“My job is to share the love of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture, but I also see it as a privilege to serve as a good role model for my students and to cheer them on in all aspects of their lives.”
Prior to teaching at Starr’s Mill, Alldredge taught at Fayette County High School for seven years and at Mcintosh for one year. In 2007, Alldredge joined the Starr’s Mill community and has been teaching here for 17 years.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, walking, going on mission trips, and spending time with her family and friends.
“More than anything else, I want [my students] to know that I care about them as people,” Alldredge said. “Instilling a love for the language and culture is just icing on the cake.”
Alldredge will receive $100 from Farmers Insurance to spend on curriculum or instruction. She plans to purchase different resources for her AP Spanish and Spanish 4 classes that will aid them in learning their vocabulary and speaking the language.
She will also receive a free large pizza from Buck’s Pizza, a gift certificate to Lisa’s Creperie in Senoia, and a free haircut from Mane Hair in Peachtree City.
