Golden Apple - Samantha Krage

Science teacher Samantha Krage is the January recipient of the Golden Apple Award. She was selected by December’s recipient Juliana Wright.

“[Krage’s] name came up over and over, and my students immediately started telling me why,” Wright said.

Krage’s philosophy is helping students not only in curriculum but also in discovering who they are and what they can handle. Learning problem-solving and life skills is just as important as the science lesson.

“I was surprised,” Krage said. “There are so many wonderful teachers at Starr’s Mill, and I was surprised to be noticed among them in my first year here.”

Krage attended Georgia College and earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in secondary education. She also went to Piedmont College and received her specialist’s degree in curriculum and instruction.

In the past, she has taught biology, physical science, and environmental science. Krage is currently teaching biology and environmental science.

Many of my students have said wonderful things about feeling like I help them when needed and appreciating that I never leave them behind,” Krage said. “I continue working with them until they understand whatever it is they are confused about, and I appreciate that they know I care for them.”

Krage will receive $100 from Farmer’s Insurance to spend on curriculum or instruction. She also received a gift certificate to Lisa’s Creperie in Senoia, and a free haircut from Mane Hair in Peachtree City, among other additional awards.
