Starr’s Mill is excited to welcome Donna Lawrence to the Panther family. She was hired in February to take on the nursing position.
Lawrence’s journey into nursing began when she was just eight years old. After her younger brother suffered a seizure, she realized her desire to help in times of medical crisis. This experience ignited her lifelong dedication to pediatrics and the health and well-being of others.
Before joining Starr’s Mill, Lawrence supervised and mentored other school nurses in the county, offering guidance and support. With over a decade of experience, including 12 years as a school nurse, she is someone whose objective is to be a nurse that students can trust and rely on for both medical advice and emotional support.
“I try to connect with every student who comes through that door. I know their struggles, their challenges, and I’m here to listen,” Lawrence said. “Sometimes, it’s more than just medical care, they need someone to talk to.”
Despite having worked with students of all ages, she has a preference for older students, appreciating their ability to communicate directly and honestly.
“With older students, I can be a straight-shooter and really have a conversation,” Lawrence said. “I enjoy that honesty.”
Lawrence hopes to be a constant source of guidance, offering care, compassion, and expert advice. She does not want to just be a nurse, but a trusted adult and a friend to staff and students.
