Starr’s Mill welcomes new assistant principal Dr. Nateil Carby to the Panther family. Carby comes to Starr’s Mill after eight years at Flat Rock Middle School.
“Working in student services has given me the opportunity to build some relationships with families in the community and it has been a rewarding experience for me,” Carby said.
His original plan was to become an optometrist because he wore glasses. However, when he was in high school, a teacher recommended working as an educator and that was all it took. For him it has been a rewarding and fulfilling career that works great for his skills and interests.
“They were looking at somebody that has a strong instructional background who has a great track record of building relationships with kids,” Carby said. “That’s always what I was strong in doing.”
Most people growing up would have a role model, and Carby is no exception as his role model is his grandmother. Her role was an intricate and important part of his life. Her love, guidance, and support helped him get where he is today. Using that support and guidance, he branches it out to students as he helps them navigate their own journeys in high school.
“The love that I’ve gotten from the faculty and staff, and even the students, has been really genuine,” Carby said. “I feel like I’m a part of the Panther family.”
