Edwards would like her legacy to be remembered as knowledgeable, and always assisting high school students through their time at Starr’s Mill.
“It’s fun to watch [students] grow up, so I’m going to miss the student body,” Edwards said. “But also the counselors, administration, [and] everybody. We’re all one big team.”
Edwards has been a part of Fayette County for about 12 years, and she has spent six of those years at Starr’s Mill. She has a bachelor’s degree in science, a master’s degree in counseling, and a specialist’s degree in curriculum and administration.
“It’s amazing to see students walk in as freshmen and leave as seniors,” Edwards said.
After retirement, Edwards plans on relaxing and working in her garden. After a couple of years, she plans to travel with family.
Edwards hopes to spread the lesson that kindness goes a long way, both in school situations and all throughout life.
“You get further in life with sugar versus vinegar,” Edwards said. “It’s an old saying, [which means] being kind and caring goes a long way.”
Starr’s Mill gives a warm goodbye to Shellie Edwards who has served the Panther family for six years.
