Starr’s Mill welcomes Mike Meyer to the Panther family. Meyer is beginning his teaching career this year after 20 years as a pilot for Delta Airlines in both Texas and Georgia.

“I got a call from a friend a little while before school started, and decided to take him up on a teaching job here at Starr’s Mill,” Meyer said.

Originally from Texas, Meyer grew up around people in the flight industry, including his father. He wasn’t quite sure what he wanted to do career-wise until he graduated high school. After flying with Delta for 20 years, he’s ready to guide students in the study of aerospace engineering, starting with the fundamentals of aerospace.

To Meyer, teaching this new class is just a small step up from teaching Sunday school classes at his church. He enjoys interacting with kids and seeing their take on different situations.

“I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do all the way through high school, and part of the way through college it occurred to me that I liked flying, and graduated with my license,” Meyer said.

One of his role models growing up was his father, who taught him how to fly. In his spare time, Meyer makes custom cabinets with a couple business partners. His two sons, Brady and Garret, recently graduated from Starr’s Mill. Brady is in his sophomore year at Georgia Tech, and Garret is in his junior year at the University of Georgia.
